Are you constantly suffering the symptoms of sore eyes, itchy skin, sore throat, sneezing, coughing or a runny nose? Chances are you may have mold in your house. You can’t always see mold, but your symptoms may give its existence away.
In addition to physical symptoms, here are some other signs that may indicate that you have a mold problem:
Musty Smell
If your home smells moldy or musty, but you don’t see visible signs of mold, mold could be hiding in places not visible to the naked eye, like behind the wallboard or under the floors.
Condensation
Places where condensation builds up, like in showers, on windows or metal pipes, are highly susceptible to mold growth. Check these areas regularly to ensure they are mold-free.
Water Leaks
When water leaks occur, they create breeding grounds for mold. Check under sinks and around drains. Also check for roof leaks and visible signs of water damage on the ceiling. Fix leaks as soon as you detect a problem.
Flooding
If your home, or areas in your home, have ever flooded, moisture probably became trapped. Look for discoloration on ceilings, floors or walls, or water stained areas. Also look for areas where paint or wallpaper is cracking or peeling, and walls or floors that are buckling or bulging. This likely indicates moisture below the surface.
Health Issues are Critical
Mold isn’t just unsightly; it is very unhealthy, and unchecked, its toxins can lead to a variety of serious health issues. Pay attention if you experience dizziness, headaches, memory loss, concentration problems, or a reduced attention span. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you must have your home checked for mold.
